Intro

This privacy notice explains how we collect, process, and use your personal data when you use our App to build your reading library, rate books, and receive personalized book recommendations. It also informs you about your rights regarding your data.

Please note! We do not knowingly process the personal data of users under 13. If you are such a user or the legal representative of such a user, please contact us.

By accessing or using the App, you agree to this privacy notice and consent to the collection, processing, transfer, and use of your personal data as described here.

Before using the App, you must read and accept this privacy notice. If you do not agree, you must immediately stop using the App.

Sources of data

We receive your data when you add books to your library, rate books, mark titles you want to read, request recommendations, dismiss suggestions, or interact with the App in any other way.

You may update or correct your data directly in the App or by contacting us. The same lawful basis and storage rules apply to the updated data.

We may also receive data indirectly, for example, transaction and subscription data from Google Play when you purchase a subscription.

Lawful bases

We rely on the following lawful bases for processing your personal data:

Performance of a contract — to provide you with the functionality of the App, including managing your reading library, storing your ratings, and generating personalized recommendations.
Legitimate interest — to improve and develop our services, ensure security, and study how users interact with the App.
Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws if required by a court, supervisory authority, or other authorized body.
Consent — for specific optional purposes, such as receiving marketing updates.

Types of data we collect

We may collect, use, and store the following categories of personal data:

Reading Data — books you add to your library, ratings you give, titles you mark as "Want to Read," and suggestions you dismiss. (Performance of a contract; Legitimate interest)
Device Data — technical data such as device model, OS version, language, and time zone. (Legitimate interest to ensure service compatibility and improvement)
Usage Data — how you interact with the App, e.g., adding books, rating them, or requesting recommendations. (Performance of a contract; Legitimate interest)
Subscription Data — subscription status and transaction identifiers received from Google Play when you purchase a subscription. (Performance of a contract; Legal obligation)

We may associate this data with an anonymous identifier so that your reading library and subscription can be linked to your device. We do not require you to provide your real name to use the App.

How we generate recommendations

The core feature of the App is personalized book recommendations. To generate them, a limited set of your Reading Data (such as titles, authors, and ratings) is sent to our backend and processed by a third-party artificial intelligence service (Google's Gemini) that produces candidate suggestions on our behalf.

We use your Reading Data solely to generate recommendations for you and to improve the quality of this feature. We do not sell your Reading Data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.

Purposes of processing

To provide access to the App and its core functionality (library management, ratings, and personalized recommendations).
To generate and validate book recommendations tailored to your reading history.
To process and verify your subscription.
To analyze how the App is used and improve user experience.
To communicate with you regarding updates, changes, or issues related to the App.

Special Categories of Data

We don't collect any Special Categories of personal data about you (this includes details about your race or ethnicity, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life, sexual orientation, political opinions, trade union membership, information about your health, and genetic and biometric data). We don't collect any information about criminal convictions and offenses.

We also undertake to collect only such amounts and types of personal data strictly required for the purposes mentioned in this privacy notice (data minimization principle).

For any new purpose of processing, we will ask for your separate explicit consent. To the extent necessary for those purposes, we take all reasonable steps to ensure that personal data is reliable, accurate, complete, and current for its intended use.

Third-party services and disclosures of your data

We may share only some of your Personal Data with our service providers, strictly limited to cases and purposes stipulated in this privacy notice.

We'll not use the information gained through your use of our App for advertising or similar services or sell it to advertising platforms, data brokers, or information resellers.

We require all third parties to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it under the law. We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes and only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes.

We will not process personal data in a way incompatible with the purposes for which it has been collected or subsequently authorized by you under the Section "Types of data we collect" of this privacy notice, nor collect any personal data that is not required for the mentioned purposes.

External Third Parties

We share your data with the parties below for the purposes listed in this privacy notice.

Google LLC — cloud infrastructure and backend (Firebase / Google Cloud), AI-powered recommendation generation (Gemini), book catalog and metadata (Google Books), and subscription processing (Google Play).

These parties help us store your data, generate and validate recommendations, process subscriptions, and understand how the App is used so we can improve its features.

Changes to the privacy notice

We reserve the right to change this privacy notice occasionally. If we make any material changes, we will notify you through the App or by presenting you with a new version of this privacy notice for you to accept — for example, if we add new processing activities or collect additional personal data from you.

Your continued use of the App after the effective date of an updated version of the privacy notice will indicate your acceptance of the modified privacy notice.

Obtaining data from third parties

When a user buys a subscription, we receive transaction data, subscription IDs, subscription terms, and App statistics from Google Play.

The collection, processing, and transmission of purchase data via Google Play are further regulated by Google Play's data processing policy.

Banking information

When you pay for a subscription to our App, you share your banking information with Google Play. This relationship is further regulated between you and Google Play's privacy notices.

We do not collect or process your banking information when you buy a subscription.

Data security

We have implemented appropriate security measures to prevent your data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered, or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your data to those employees, agents, contractors, and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your data based on our instructions and are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

We also use technical data encryption tools such as SSL/TLS protocols to keep your data secure.
